Prosthetics
Prosthetics is an art and science, which includes designing, fitting, and fabricating artificial limbs (prostheses) for amputees. Prostheses are always worn externally, and are custom fit and fabricated to correspond with each individual’s physical proportions and functional needs. Prosthetists utilize a high degree of anatomical knowledge, clinical training, and technological, mechanical, and artistic talents when designing prostheses. The relationship between a prosthetist and an amputee is usually lifelong.
